Teaching Philosophies
Inner Discipline (Barbara Coloroso)
I believe it is worth my time and effort to teach children to be responsible for their behavior. It is important that I always follow the Golden Rule, and that is to treat students the way I want to be treated. This way, I will be able to model the kind of behavior that I expect from my students. Teachers have the power to positively and negatively affect student learning so to be able to achieve an effective classroom management system, I must always treat them with respect and avoid humiliation, ridicule, and using sarcasm. For my students to become self-disciplined, I will teach them self-discipline instead of counting on myself to discipline them. I will be the backbone teacher that my students need. I want to be the kind of teacher that brings out the creativity and unique qualities that students have. I want to support my students and motivate them to be the best they can be. Teaching them how to think and to believe in others as well as themselves during difficult times are some of the many goals I have for my class.

Positive Classroom Management (Fredric Jones)
I will implement positive classroom management by promoting and modeling appropriate and positive behavior to address behavior problems that may occur in my class. To create positive classroom management, I will help students with their emotions, self-esteem, values, and to help them build relationships. Understanding my students will guide me in creating an environment that they feel they can be successful in. In order to present the fundamental skills of classroom management, I will teach the rules, explain why the rules are needed, and convince the students that following the rules is for their welfare and benefit. I will do this by creating rules that are clear, easy to follow and all my students agree on, having general behavior and work rules, and deciding on rules that I will always be willing to enforce. Other skills include limit setting using signals to stop certain behaviors, cooperation, and backup systems

Congruent Communication Theory (Haim Ginott)
I believe teachers should have open communication with students achknowledge what they say and do without labeling or judging them negatively. I will guide students rather than criticize them because that affects them and their learning negatively, unless it is contructive criticism. I will also use uncritical messages that show acceptance towards students. Critical messages tend to have you-messages, so it is important that I use I-messages to address a student's misbehavior compared to you-messages which point out the student's character. I think that appreciative praise should be used when students gather their efforts in order to achieve a goal rather than evaluative praise which can have a negative impact on students,
